REFUGEE RESETTLEMENT VOLUNTEER

Assist ACC case managers in welcoming and providing Reception & Placement services to newly arrived refugee. Help with locating affordable housing, find furnishings and necessary household goods to setup apartment for new families; provide transportation and accompany clients to various appointments – types of appointments include applying for a state ID at a DMV office, trips to the grocery store, and doctor appointment.

DONATION COORDINATOR VOLUNTEER

Help collect and distribute in-kind resources for newly arrived refugees, Resources include hygiene products, , kitchen ware and utensils, bedding, towels, cleaning products, and clothing.

REFUGEE PRE-ARRIVAL COORDINATOR VOLUNTEER

Provide a warm welcome to an arriving refugee family by helping to prepare their first home. This may include cleaning the apartment, arranging household items and /or furniture, checking for repair, and greeting the family at the airport. This could be ongoing opportunity for volunteer with limited availability during normal office hours.

EMPLOYMENT MENTOR

Provide support and encouragement to new refugees, immigrants, and asylee in search of employment by: assisting in job search application process, practicing interview skills, creating a resume and providing transportation for job related activities. Assist staff by organizing employment workshops and support groups. Help a new resident secure employment while gaining insight to the refugee experience and learning about a new culture.

FIRST FRIENDS

As a first friend, you will be paired with a refugee family. The goal of the First Friend program is for refugees and volunteers to build relationships and participate in a cultural exchange as refugee families resettle. Through this process, refugees and First Friends come to see one another as friends. To be a First Friend, whether you are the refugee or the volunteer, is to be a cultural adviser, a teacher, and a learner.
